Former Rangers Star Steps Up to Bat for Texas Values in 2025 House Race |

Imagine stepping off the bright lights of a baseball stadium and into the heated world of politics. That's exactly what Mark Teixeira, the powerhouse first baseman who thrilled fans with the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees, is doing now.
At 45, this retired slugger announced on August 28, 2025, that he's running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. He's aiming for Texas's 21st District, a spot west of Austin and San Antonio that's as red as a Rangers jersey.
Mark's story starts on the field. Drafted fifth overall in 2001 by the Rangers, he smashed his way to fame with three All-Star nods, five Gold Glove awards, and a World Series ring with the Yankees in 2009.
Over 14 seasons, he hit 409 home runs and became a fan favorite for his grit and skill. But after hanging up his cleats in 2016, Mark and his family moved back to Texas in 2021. Now, he's trading baseball bats for ballots, ready to fight for what he calls "America First" ideas.
In his announcement on X, Mark shared his excitement. "As a proud Texan and lifelong conservative who loves our country, I'm ready to fight for the principles that make Texas strong and America exceptional," he said.
He wants to team up with leaders like Donald Trump to secure the border, boost the economy, and stop what he sees as "radical woke indoctrination" in schools. The district's current rep, Chip Roy, is stepping down to run for Texas attorney general, opening the door for Mark's bid.
But Mark isn't alone in the race. Daniel Betts, who tried for Travis County district attorney last year, is also running for the Republican spot. The primary will be a showdown in this deeply conservative area, redrawn by lawmakers to favor the GOP.
Mark knows teamwork wins games, and he's calling on voters to join his squad. From hitting homers to hitting the campaign trail, Mark Teixeira is proving that heroes can step up in new ways. Will he score a win for Texas? The game is just starting, and fans are watching closely. |
